Yeah just saw that! This is the album he did with Nick Littlemore in 2012. Nick said in an interview that the project was 'tentatively' called White Shadows. Jess posted that picture of Craig in the studio last year at the mixing desk with the caption of 'new album soon' so that's probably what it was!

Interesting, because Nick Littlemore is also working on new stuff for Pnau and Empire of the Sun this year as well (and several shows with EotS coming up).

P.S. The font reminds me of the old Wonderland Sydney logo.

And kinda like a smoother version of the old Gorillaz logo! I wonder if it'll be under the Vines name now, coz its their profile picture for all their pages at the moment.

I'm assuming you guys know that the album name and release date was revealed yesterday (http://www.nme.com/news/the-vines/83415), but I also found the album for pre-order on itunes and you can see the tracklist: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/secret-of-life/id975435267
The song 'Hate' was on a list of songs they were planning to record for Future Primitive, which leads me to believe this album is a reworking/rerecorded version of the unreleased album the old line-up recorded after F.P. That album was originally a demos/outtakes thing (Give Up, Give Out... and Hate??) but then they rerecorded the songs and it had strings and trumpets and epic ballads. Am I onto something here?

I think you are.
Also, I'm sad that there won't be any interviews or a tour (perhaps due to all the 40 guest musicians) but I wonder if they will change their mind/have one-off live performances.

I could imagine a really epic one-off televised performance on a big stage with a load of musicians playing the album through, Craig in the middle of it all. They'd be crazy not to!

I'd still like it if The Vines did release some sort of boxset that's full of the demo tracks that haven't been released yet. We all know there's a plethora of material going as far back as the entire Zen Demos, & as recent as that unreleased album before Craig 'fired' them or whatever.
I do think it's a good thing Craig finally got his shit together to record an electronic album, which he's been mentioning in interviews since 2003 (in question to the follow up to 'Highly Evolved'). Although I was disappointed that the first track was a re-work of a b-side, I've still got hope considering 40 musicians are on this bloody thing.
Kinda bland album artwork knowing Craig's style too

Yeah, something like Nirvana's With the Lights Out boxset would be awesome. A mix of demos and outtakes. And it wouldn't cost anything to record because its all there already. The only real cost would be for physical copies. I've heard them mention Vision Valley and Future Primitive demos too so there's plenty of cool shit they could use. Probably if the songs have appeared on proper albums though, the labels might own the rights or something. But Craig has a wealth of songs nobody's heard before too.
It bugs me so much that there's that unreleased album just sitting on the shelf. It sounded like it was gunna be really trippy and interesting. Still going with my theory that the White Shadows record is a reworking if the unreleased album though!

Release a box set WITH a documentary DVD included. I thought there was talk of a behind the scenes footage spanning their entire career, or even a TV special that was made around the Vision Valley and Melodia days... or am I wrong?
And I AM excited to hear White Shadows as soon as possible!

That's what also makes me think nothing like that would surface from sessions like 'Vision Valley', or that we'd ever get to hear the version of 'Winning Days' that the band did for 'Highly Evolved'. Capitol would own those masters for probably another bloody 10 years at least, & who knows what Ivy League & Sony got out of their one album deals with the group.
Nevertheless, if such a plethora of music was released, a documentary should be put hand in hand with it. Nicholls/The Vines' history spans over 3 decades now, & something like a doco would be awesome to see that rise & fall that was the early 2000's. It'd be interesting to hear Patrick's side of the story with the entire band, I'd love to hear that. Wonder if the Oliffe brothers would ever agree to something like that (Probably not).
If they could do a documentary on The Sunnyboys & shine light on Schizophrenia, who says they can't do the same with Asperger's & The Vines?

It also backs up the 'White Shadows = Vines unreleased album' theory of mine. (Quote: "Many of the songs were, and clearly present as, songs he wrote with The Vines in mind. ‘Winter Dreaming,’ is sped up a few beats per minute, would make for an agreeable mid-album breather on any new Vines LP")

Thanks for linking that review!
Now I absolutely can't wait for White Shadows! Just the songs, just the music. I hope this will be available on CD format as I still but CDs and records from my favorite artists.
