| I play some piano, and little bit of drums. There's an instrument I would like to play a lot: the voice (the ability to sing).

| ^ I had a similar experience. Music teachers always tend to set the bar too high for kids. They teach classical Beethoven instead of radio/popular music; which is more friendly and fun. Amazingly, many kids end up bored of music; even the potentially talented ones.
In my pseudo-pianist life the only things I really appreciate are: having room for a piano; play whatever comes up; and being self-taught. For example I only play chords (like a rhythm guitar), and there's a lot of cool music using just chords (instead of sheets where every finger has its corresponding position).

Nice instrument to play haha. Strings must have been hard for a kid. - Craig's Angel wrote:

Excellent I suspect drummers tend to be the happiest of the band members, cos they make body activity while keeping the rhythm/beat. - braindead wrote:

Good old natural instruments, great. Moogs !! Have you ever heard about this moog-tribute duo "The Moog Cookbook" Here's an extremely lovely version of Basket Case (Green Day). The sounds are killer. And it includes other remarkable musical tributes !!

It wasn't hard, just extremely boring lol - FindAWayOut wrote:

Exactly, yeah. It just killed classical music for me, heh Even today I find it pretty annoying (maybe except Bach) - FindAWayOut wrote:

The piano was OK, and I actually enjoyed playing Chopin's Funeral March which drove my elderly neighbour wild, hahah

Interesting, reminds me of this quote by a Poet: "What man does not understand, he fears; and what he fears, he tends to destroy." ( William Butler Yeats) - Rusty wrote:

*is duly impressed* didgeridoo? Wow, awesome! [/quote] Yeah, didgeridoo is probably the hardest out of all them, because you don't need to do circular breathing to play guitar or drums works your lungs a bit

| Weeell...I can play bass. But in general I'm more into vocals as in abilities and such. I wish I had more time to learn and play though, I love this instrument! | |

I wish I had been forced. ^^ Now I am left on my own. And I can't afford lessons at the moment. Oh well... I tried guitar. But on my own. I have my mother's guitar. She asked me once whether I still use it and I said no and she asked whether I'd like to give it back (she does not need it, but after all it's hers) and I immediately thought, "No way, that would be giving up". I'm a hopeless case. - braindead wrote:

Oh, Moog synthesizers. <3 The tambourine was actually the first instrument crush I have had. XD It's too silly to mention, but awwww. I still love them. They're so underrated. - FindAWayOut wrote:

But that's the way it's taught. Classical music is still a very conservative... field. Which is ridiculous. I never bought into that. For a while, I was totally turned off by classical training. Because it's just so... middle-class. Music is supposed to be for everyone, but only a minority has the means to gain entry into that world. - VisionValley wrote:

Guitars... here we go again. Guitars are awesome instruments. You can do so much with them. But "anyone can play guitar" (I know I can't, simple chords mostly bore me and these things just stare at me, I don't know what to do with them). I don't think guitar is an easy instrument though. To be an ok guitarist is easy, to be an ok drummer takes a lot more effort. To be a great guitarist though takes a lot of effort. I don't think that "just guitar" is bad. - Anysound wrote:

I know what he means. It's like that for me with drawing/painting and music. Just that drawing takes a lot less effort. I always found it more difficult to just... you know... have six strings and no... idea. It's not a matter of chords. One chord can be enough, but it never felt right. So that's why my life is miserable. I don't feel right whatever I do. - effervescingelephant wrote:

whoa! keys, strings and percussion. You could become multi-intrumentist if you mind to it, honestly.
the truth is that i'm really awful with guitar but i always try Trying is always the way to get there. Aw, piano. Pianos are great. They're probably the easiest instrument with an equally great potential. Also, I love keyboards. They're silly and great and .

Yeah, I believe I see what you're pointing out with concepts like middle-class, conservative and, ultimately, exclusiveness. But I think it's because everything has a cost associated. Nothing is free.

Yeah, I believe I see what you're pointing out with concepts like middle-class, conservative and, ultimately, exclusiveness. But I think it's because everything has a cost associated. Nothing is free. I know. That's the main problem. Many kids are turned off by the idea of classical music. Because it's not available to them. Or because they don't think it's cool.
