At the time, it was known as the Year of the Consulship of Agricola and Clementinus (or, less frequently, year 983 Ab urbe condita). The denomination 230 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years.

Emperor Alexander Severus decides that Thessaly should be a separate province from Macedonia. He increased taxes in order to maintain the war against the Sassanids and strengthening the defenses of the Roman Empire.
