And now, I feel really stupid, people tell me it was obvious, that I should have known, but why wouldn't I trust my best friend? And I think back to the conversations we had.. me and Matt, and how I loved him, how i loved a guy that never existed and it feels really crappy

You shouldn't really feel stupid or blame yourself for getting into this situation. After all, it's hardly conceivable that someone who is supposed to care about you would even dream of doing this to you. The problem doesn't lie with you though, it lies with your "friend". Sure, perhaps you've maybe been a little naive, but who isn't at your age? Burn your bridges with this person and never look back. You don't need people like that in your life, dear.

There is certain aspects of your story that I can relate to in a way and if I'm being totally honest with you, I think I would've prefered to have found out that the girl I fell for turned out to be non-existent, too. I know that sounds strange, but it's true. If I had found out that she didn't actually exist and she was just some figment of my friend's imagination, I'm sure it would've hurt like hell for a while and I'm sure that betrayal of trust would've felt like something I can't even imagine right now, but I would've eventually moved on. The thing that actually prevents me from moving on myself is the fact that I know for a fact that this girl is out there, somewhere. I physically know that there's another person on this earth who is so similar to me in many ways, who once had the ability to make every dull little thing in my life seem more colourful, who could make my grey skies turn blue on a crappy day; etc. She has a face and a name. She isn't just an idea.

Seriously, if I could wake up tomorrow and realise she wasn't actually real, that'd be so much easier to handle. At least then I could fool myself into thinking that maybe there isn't anyone out there for me after all. At least then I could pretend that this is actually all there is. Knowing that there's something as special and unique as her out there in the world just makes me realise what I'm actually missing and what I could've had. Trust me, you're better off this way. It's easier to know nothing at all; ignorance really is bliss.

Oh my god. What type of "friend" does something like that? That's insane. So horrible. I am so sorry you have been hurt by this, but like Dan said, don't blame yourself or feel stupid. This is not your fault; it is entirely the fault of this stupid "friend" of yours. Dan's words are much more consoling and touchingly relevant than any I could offer you but just remember I'm sending you good wishes and hugs from Australia.

I was actually going to go to bed after this A Silver Mt. Zion album, but after reading that post, I'm going to have another smoke and crack Highly Evolved on and appreciate this absolute gem of an album. Easily in the top 5 albums of all time, in my opinion.

The outro in Homesick is nothing but absolute genius. All the multi-layering effects and melodies are fantastic. That's probably my favourite part of the entire album, but then again, In The Jungle blows my mind everytime I hear it. Honestly couldn't say a bad thing about it.

Let's be honest, Kid A is pretty gash, but it certainly doesn't deserve a place on that list.

What kinda pisses me off here is, I think Blink 182 are one of the most overrated acts out there, how many albums on list? 0

And the way he blames "Nevermind" for Nu Metal & Alien Ant Farm shits me, personally I can't really see the relation to the 2, I'm pretty sure Nu Metal was just a name for them bands who tried to be like RATM but were trashy & just followed the trend at the time.

And that 'Diorama' is overrated? far out! for a 22 year old in this time & age that album should be hailed as a masterpiece, sure I prefer the first 3 albums by Silverchair rather than the last 2 but you gotta hand it to Daniel for making something as grand as that.

I can't drink, smoke, eat pizza, chocolate and all those bad things that tastes so gooood, I feel so limited when it comes to eat, well, at least I can still shag.

I also hate how inadequate I am in every way, which just contributes to the problem.

You will, over time, learn more and more.

Your comfort level will expand. Your knowledge will grow.

Although it seems so slow, time will bring situations around again
and again that you will bit by bit learn to deal with them.

Over the years I have learned funny answers.

I used to take everyone so seriously. I never would understand when people were joking. It seemed more like a lie, and when the joke part
came I would be mad I was taken in by it.

I still get caught up in things sometimes, but now I don't worry
about it so much. What others think about me, talk about me,
who cares...

In the end, there is only you dealing with yourself. Develop the person
you would like to be you and will happy in your own company.

PS. I used to be ashamed of things in my life that went badly. Trying
to cover them up so people thought my life was perfect. Now, I share those
things as crazy life experiences and shock and amaze people that
are surprised I am as sane as I am now.

I have learned much from you as well. I have been able to share things here that I was unable to tell others. I always look forward to

Not quite. He warned me it'd hurt which made me panic but then when he pulled and poked and prodded and put pressure on me it didn't really hurt as much as he implied (reverse psychology, heh). Then they put something hot on it and then on top of that a little machine which vibrated to relieve tension. It went better than expected.
