| anyone else heard some news? the vibe i was getting a few months ago was that it'll be more softer/psychedelic. i'm judging it'll be entirely finished now.....but with label bullshit (ie future primitive being complete for over a YEAR before release) i don't think it'll be out till next year....BAH!
EDIT with some links...
musicfeeds.com.au/ news/ the-vines-new-album-late-this-year-or-early-next-year-release/ (can't post full link sorry!!)
"Frontman Craig Nicholls was recently talking about a curious album of ‘home demos’ that would end up as a fast follow-up to Future Primitive. He originally had 139 songs on his digital 8-track, but has managed to whittle it down to 15 tracks for a new album."
Craig-"We’ve already started making our next album and I’m doing vocals on Tuesday, so we’ve recorded all the instruments … then we may record some more so we don’t know … it will either come out late this year or early next year."

| i have no idea! honestly, most of their songs have been softer, though. I honestly think that they have the right idea for a band. play whatever sounds right to the lyrics. whenever most people think of the vines they think of get free, outtathaway, he's a rocker, etc... when i think of them i think of autumn shade, 1969, orange amber, etc. so i think if it's going to be softer, it'll be up their alley. | |

| I've always liked the 'softer' songs more. I prefer songs like Vision Valley, Take Me Back, Homesick and True As The Night instead of their best known stuff like Get Free and He's A Rocker. Every album they released to date has some amazing songs, as well as some mediocre ones. So, I'm looking forward to whatever they bring us. I'm hoping for some longer tracks though, 'cause many of The Vines' songs finish way too early. | |

| yes, especially their better songs. i'll just get into a mood and then it'll end.
or maybe we just love them so much that we just -think- the songs are too short.

| There's talk of a new album already? I'm not complaining AT ALL, but it seems really soon. If they have a new album coming out, BRING IT ON! My fave albums by The Vines are definitely the first two. Vision Valley was a great, too. My least fave is Melodia. Future Primitve was definitely a comeback type album. Cry was my favourite song from that album. I had broken up with someone at the time and the song spoke to me very much. Thanks again, Craig! You always seem to write songs that reflect something that's happening in my life! Keep them coming!!! | |

| I hope there will be fast and slow songs! I like songs like autumn shade, winning days or spaceship but I prefer songs like Ride, Get free, Future Primitive,Scream or Don't listen to the radio. It would be very boring without faster songs. | |

I'm not complaining AT ALL, but it seems really soon. Originally it was just going to be a rarities album i believe, ie a bunch of tracks Craig has written over the years that never made it onto an album. But now its shaping up to be a proper album. It's not too soon when you think about it, Future primitive was recorded about a year before its release, so they had to be busy doing something during that time!

| yeah, the album was originally supposed to be a "home demos" thing but theyve said a couple of times now that it's definitely going to be properly recorded and produced, and be released as a new album hopefully around the beginning of the year. Apparantely it's going to be a lot more acoustic and ballad-y, with lots of strings etccc :-) wewwww, I cant wait! | |

| I've heard about this album for a while now too and I don't know quite what to make of it. I guess the quick release of it is a good idea since they're already recorded on Craig's 8-track, but even still I'd prefer it if this release had a bit more time and effort put in to make something more of it. People forget that it took over a year to record Highly Evolved. Even still, I feel like this album might be sort of like Nirvana's Incesticide, not fully developed but has enough catchy hooks to warran a purchase. Whatever happens I'll have a listen, since it's a little more of Craig being in his own element with songwriting, which should be interesting. | |

- You’re currently recording your sixth studio album, how’s that going?
We’ve done ten songs so far and I’ve produced it. We’re going to record some more songs soon and will hopefully have it out very early next year.
How did you find the process of producing your own album? It was great; I got to wear my sunglasses inside the control room. But it was very easy, really, because I’d like to think that I’ve co-produced a lot of our stuff before. This album is something a bit different for us though.
How so? Well, there’s a lot of acoustic stuff; we’ve got strings and trumpets. There’s a kind of country feel to a lot of it, I guess, with some epic ballads and then there’s some kung-fu rock stuff as well.
Was this new direction something that was planned? It wasn’t really planned at all. Originally, we were going to put an album out as demos and then we thought, we’ll just go in the studio and record them and they turned out really well. It’s good to do something a bit different. http://oystermag.com/interview-the-vines
