When did you get into the vines?

It was seventh grade for me. 2001 / 2002. i believe i heard Get Free. I was starstruck, in a way. My mom and dad brought me to this bargain CD shop, and i found Highly Evolved. I begged to get it. I obviously got it.

First thing when i got home? put it into my computer and listen. And listen I did. With much disappointment. I bought their next album, and again, I was upset.

Putting it away for a few years, I came back across them in my CD collection, and gave a listen. The lyrics -- deep and personal to me. Why? I have no idea, but they gave me goosebumps and that's the one way to know that music is really getting to you.

So, now that it's been nearly 10 years or so since I've listened to them, I just can't get enough, and am deeply saddened that they don't come to the states quite enough.

So, that's my story. What about yours?!

I really hated the vines when highly evolved came out....then i heard tv pro on a free cd that came with rolling stone magazine during the winning days era and i went crazy. and i love highly evolved now too, i was just being a stupid teen hating on good music.

EXACTLY! i had no idea what "good" music was back then. it's amazing how time changes your opinion on amazing things that weren't so amazing a few years prior.

Was around 2004 I think, I just fell in love with Winning Days the first time I heard it. I used to post a lot on the other forum but it died a bit. Hopefully this one will stay alive.

i tried to post on the other forum, but i registered and it said something like i had to wait a week to post or something. i totally forgot about it. thanks to facebook and my late nights, i saw the link and now i'm one of thei first peopel here! yay! <3

but that's super cool.. i think i got into them not too long after WD came out.. only because, like i said, i came back across their cd, gave a listen and then found out they had another cd out, so i got my butt on it!

aw good times! ;D It feels weird being one of the first on here......

i think i like it being small... it's more intimate and less crazy. you can keep track of things a lot better.

Since nearly nobody knows about The Vines out here in the Netherlands, I discovered them in a different way. A few years ago I bought Flatout 2 (a racing game for the computer) for a few bucks. This game has one of the best tracklists I've ever saw in a videogame. It got me into Alkaline Trio and Supergrass...and The Vines! 'Don't Listen To The Radio' was included, and I loved it at the very first time I heard it. I looked them up on Youtube and came across Anysound and Gross Out; two tracks I really didn't like at first. Another year passed, and they released Melodia. This made me give The Vines another listen, and I gradually started to dig them....and now it's one of my favourite bands.

I was just thinking that.....

I believe it was the Get Free performance on Letterman that got me into them The way craig went crazy really influenced how i play and act. Which is awesome

and suddenly i'm in love with them :lol

after i saw their winning days VC , i'm start to find their albums
(was about 2007)
and now i'm really fuckin love these guys , especially Craig nicholls

awwww i miss all the good stuff. i don't watch late night talk shows, just because it's not really anyone i like. i recently caught all time low on conan, and the performance was just appalling .... i wanted to chuck something and hope that whatever i threw at the TV that alex would feel it. but most of my bands aren't usually on shows like that. will for sure look it up on youtube, though!

tbh i dont watch them ethier i live in the UK so as far as i know we don't have Conan and Letterman etc so i never see any of this, the only time i do is stumbling on it on youtube

i think i found the vines letterman thing when i was watching Nirvana live and it popped up, or something like that lol then i realised this was the band for me :3

psh, the vines are for EVERYBODY! it's got a little something for, like i said, everybody. that's what makes them so damn great.

It was in 2007 maybe? One day I went to my local library and was looking for some cds to listen to. I stumbled upon Winning Days by chance and was immediately drawn to the cover art I knew nothing about them, but I fell in love with the album I remember hearing "Ride" and thinking "Hey I've heard this before!" with my heart rate increasing and all. TV Pro was on repeat for a long, long time.

yeah, there's just something about their art that's just so amazing.

and when you realize that you picked out a CD that you've heard songs from there it's an amazing feeling and discovery. TV pro is quite good. it's one of those songs where i was all "wtf?" to but it grew on me.

Haha, I agree. I have "converted" quite a few friends (and family members) into Vines fans and they all like different songs/ albums.

i just feel like the vines are just perfect. i mean, i praise craig for doing what he does, concidering his i don't want to call it a disability, cuz it's not, but his minor issue. it just blows me away how amazing people can be, no matter what they do, where they come from or who they are. this band has words that changed my life and my point of view on things. i just wish i had friends to share this with, ya know?

Exactly!

It was 2006, saw the Anysound music video ov TV, was interested. It wasn't until 2008 when I really got into them after a low point in my life. Still a huge fan (huge fan as in having a Vines tattoo) to this day.

I was ten years old, and typically, it was in response to the awesome power that is Get Free. From there, The Vines became one of my favourite bands. I know it's almost become a cliche to describe them as the perfect amalgamation of '60s psychedelia and '90s grunge, but that's exactly what they are. To me, even just that description is the epitome of perfect music.

1969 and Amnesia are two of the greatest songs ever written.
